Guidelines
What we list, and how we review
A person reads every entry before it goes live. These are the rules they follow.
We list
- Real companies, startups and studios with a website that works.
- A product or service people can use, try or buy today.
- One entry per company, under the company's own domain.
- A description that says in plain words what the company does and for whom.
We decline
- Parked domains, pages under construction and pages that only collect sign-ups.
- Adult content, gambling, weapons, drugs and anything illegal where the company works.
- Scams, copies of other companies' sites, and services that sell fake reviews or fake followers.
- Descriptions stuffed with keywords or copied from elsewhere.
- A second entry for a company that is already in the Index.
How the review works
- Free entries are reviewed in the order they arrive. Fast-track entries within one working day.
- We may fix typos and shorten a description. We never change what the company says it does.
- A declined entry shows the reason in your dashboard. Fix it and it goes back into the queue.
Links
- Every approved entry links to the company with a followed link. The link comes with the review.
- Sponsored spots are marked "Sponsored" and carry a sponsored link.
- We never sell a link, and a badge is never a condition for being listed.
Edits and take-downs
- Edit your entry from your dashboard any time. A new website address sends it back to review.
- To remove your entry, write to hello@thecompanyindex.com from the address on the account.
- We take down an entry that breaks these rules later, for example when the website starts to redirect elsewhere.
Our own companies
The company that runs the Index has products of its own. They go through the same review, get the same entry as everyone else, and never take a sponsored spot.
